Blacque’s Literary Machine-Coming September 2001!

Writer’s Guidelines

Blacque’s Literary Machine is intended as a site for fans of the experimental, the different and the new.

Most genres are considered, as long as proper manuscript format is followed. The editor’s job is not to teach anyone how to spell or correct grammar usage. If you are a new writer, please consider purchasing texts on proper manuscript format (Writers Digest Books are a great resource) or search the web’s professional writer’s sites.

Be professional-that means submitting your best product in a neat, concise fashion. Submissions that are not up to standards will not be accepted for publication. In short, treat this resource as you would any professional writer’s publication-we’ll show you the same respect.

We read July-December.

The copyright remains with the author-we just ask for first electronic rights. This means that for at least sixty (60) days, your material should not appear in any other print or e-zine. After that time, all rights revert to author.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

FICTION-I like sci/fi. fantasy, horror, lesbian/gay/alternative stories; ethnic experience and tales about women are strongly welcomed; mainstream lit with verve is also considered. Metaphysical tales (witchcraft, astrology, paranormal, New Age lore, Mythology, etc.) are a big plus-we notice these subjects are usually handled in the “Swords & Sorcerer” like way. Got a new spin on an old formula? Send it!

Give me your vampire stories (but for godsakes be original!). Like aliens? Me too. Make me believe they enter my bedroom at night. Girl/girl and boy/boy scenes can be a real turn-on. Make them spicy or sweet without too much smut or sentiment.

Sex is nice, but has its limits; I reserve my porn intake for the video/DVD player. No romance epics or Movie-Of-The-Week style, “And then she dies.” stories.  No trademarked characters from films or television shows.

NON-FICTION-Articles between 500-1000 words on the writing craft, essays (sometimes); reviews of other webzines (what they offer, format, readability, etc.) and articles which discuss specific methodology for breaking into markets, i.e. “How To Make The Sale”.

And at least for now-NO POETRY.

The Internet is a medium made for people with short attention spans-if you can’t say what you need to in 3, 000 words or less, submit elsewhere.

We DO edit submissions for clarity (when necessary) and will notify the author of any and all changes.

I prefer to receive e-mail submissions at this time via text copied directly into the e-mail’s body (some people think viruses are funny). I may make concessions in special cases (MS Word ,WordPerfect or RTF). A short bio should accompany your submission. If you use a pseudonym, please include this (after your real name) and use this symbol (*) for clarification. In the Subject Box, add BLM Submission, “Genre”-( genre is important!!!)

We DO accept works that were previously published on the Internet or in print publications, though original works are preferred. Should you submit a previously published work, please let us know the original publication (this will also look good in your contributor profile.) Let us know if you wish for your e-mail address (or any additional contact info) to be available to our readers. Contributors are also free to send pictures.

Blacque’s Literary Machine is not offering monetary payment at this time-but hopes to join the paying markets by (or before) Summer 2002. We know it’s hard to write part/full time and pay the bills, too.
